El día de la independencia llama a la acción
por: Dick Armey

Dear compatriots,

This July will be critical on Capitol Hill! Our intelligence shows that four key issues could be decided by Congress over the next month.

From July 1st to July 10th, Congress will be on Independence Day Recess, which means that your U.S. Senators and Representative will be home holding town hall meetings and listening sessions to discuss important issues. Because these issues will most likely be voted on by the end of July, it’s critical that you get in front of your elected officials during the Independence Day Recess period at events and in their district offices and let them know where you stand! [TAKE ACTION]

There are four critical points we’d like you to bring up with your legislators during the recess period:

1) Reform Social Security through personal accounts
2) Support strict medical criteria for asbestos lawsuits, and reject Senator Arlen Specter’s trust fund proposal
3) Repeal the Death Tax once and for all
4) Reform local franchise laws so Americans can choose their cable TV

Urgent developments are being made on all four of these topics. Legislators have put forth a plan that would use the Social Security surplus to create PRAs, and this proposal is gaining momentum on Capitol Hill. Some in Congress are even speculating that a vote on Social Security reform could come as early as July! Votes are also expected soon on the Asbestos Trust Fund, Death Tax repeal, and possibly the issue of reforming local franchise laws that would allow consumers more choices in how they receive TV programming. With leadership promising to move a number of bills in the near future, you can be sure that the Left will be working as hard as possible to defeat these critical reforms.

That’s why it’s crucial that you get in front of Members of Congress over the next week and tell them to support Personal Retirement Accounts, as well as asbestos litigation reform, permanent death tax repeal, and local franchise reform.

FreedomWorks has prepared Independence Day Recess Action Kits especially for this next week that will enable you to promote these important reforms and prepare you for discussing them with your legislators. Each Action Kit includes :

1. Talking points with in-depth knowledge on all four issues
2. Sample questions to ask at events and intercepts with your legislators
3. FreedomWorks issue briefs
4. A sign-up sheet to enlist others to join the FreedomWorks grassroots army
5. Detailed informational booklets that make the case for Social Security reform
6. “Take Back AARP” postcards to distribute that call for the resignation of the AARP’s liberal leadership
7. Questionnaires for legislators and their staff to help build FreedomWorks’ intelligence on these issues
8. Response forms to mail in and update FreedomWorks on your great work
9. A FreedomWorks t-shirt

To receive your Independence Day Recess Action Kit, please contact FreedomWorks’ coordinator for this project, Adam Nicholson at 1-888-564-6273 or via email at anicholson@freedomworks.org.

Adam and the FreedomWorks grassroots team can also help you in your activities during the recess period by letting you know about your legislators’ schedule of town hall meetings and helping you make appointments at their district offices. So take advantage of this opportunity to do your part to help the movement for smaller government and contact us today –1-888-564-6273.

We’re nearing the finish line on these four issues! All of your dedication during the election and over the past year has paid off, but we need one last push to make these pro-freedom reforms a reality.

Sincerely,

Dick Armey
